Director's Biography
Said Ould Khelifa was a journalist in Algeria from 1969 to 1989. He then relocated to France. His first film, Ombres Blanches (1991), won first prize at the Festival of Amiens, France, in 1991. He has collaborated with the festival "Theatres au Cinema" in Bobigny, France. As a theatre artist he has directed the works of Alloula, Aristophane, Fassbinder and Brecht. He also staged Aux Deux Rives, based on the work of Kateb Yacine and Albert Camus. In his latest film, Vivantes (2006), a group of cleaning women suffer the extreme violence of men in a Saharan petrol camp, only to have the family doors slammed in their faces on returning home.
