Synopsis

Mehdi, an Algerian novelist, no longer has the courage to speak aloud, so he writes while the violence that surrounds him seizes, without distinction, the bodies and hearts of his country. In order to continue on with his life, Mehdi hides himself in his work as a civil servant for the city morgue of Algiers. The rest of the time he lives, isolated in his apartment, surround only by sheets of paper blackened by loves impulses and a burning sun. In a neighboring apartment lives Ania, the daughter of Europeans who left Algeria after the war for independence in 1962. Their developing connection troubles Mehdi as he fears endangering the people around him by the threats that weigh on his own life. All the same, Ania continues to bring Mehdi a tray of tea everyday even when it means finding his door shut to the world.
