Director's Biography
Author, stage director, actor, & film director, Wajdi Mouawad is one of the more prolific figures of the Francophone world. His distinguished career has earned Wajdi several awards, including more recently the Francophonie 2004 Award for the SACD for his overall contribution, the First Prize from the Quebec Theater Critics Association & the Governor General of Canada Award in 2000 for his play Littoral. Additionally, he was knighted as Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.
Born in Lebanon, Wajdi lived in France before coming to Canada. His foremost sources of inspiration are war, exile & the problems of individual & social integration. His highly personal & penetrating vision of the human experience, gives his work a vibrant universal resonance.
